Toward an Atlas of the European Delta Landscape

This book examines a number of European terriories that are both fragile and affected by climate change. These characteristics – one inherent to the regions under study, the other caused by their transformation over time – produce significant effects on the ways in which such areas are inhabited.

The first part of the book proposes an analysis of several European Deltas (those of the rivers Danube, Ebro, Guadalquivir, Nemunas, Po, Rhine and Rhone). It compares them in order to identify common areas of concern, as well as problems specific to their individual locality.

What will the Po river delta region look like in 2100? The second part of this volume endeavours to answer such questions. Today, at the beginning of the 21st century, it is of the utmost importance that we discuss the fate of territories affected by ongoing climate change; this book provides an example of how this feat may be approached.
