New Water Anthropology

Once, water defined the layout and structure of many cities and their architecture. These cities existed in symbiosis with water itself: depending on it and developing alongside it. Over time however, scientific techniques and progresses introduced systems to conserve and distribute water artificially. By distancing ourselves from its original character, we have violated some of its behavioural patterns. As a result, we have lost landscapes and urban spaces which find their 'raison d etre' in water.

"New Water Anthropology" collects a series of works that have been developed since 2008, by Masters students reading Urban Vision and Architectural Design at Domus Academy, Milan. During this period these students have been working alongside the creators of this book to develop research projects related to water, and its operation in urban contexts.
